A pedestal basin looks neat until you live with it. There is nowhere to keep the soap, nowhere to hide the cleaning bottles, and the pipes stand in full view. Everything ends up on the floor or crowded onto the window ledge. This unit settles all three at once. The ceramic top is one piece: an oval bowl, a curved front apron, and flat ledges on both sides for soap and a toothbrush glass. Under it stands a mahogany cabinet with two panel doors and three drawers — room for towels, cleaners and everything the pedestal left homeless. The pipework goes behind the doors. The chrome single-lever mixer is already fitted and comes with the unit. The cabinet is 800 x 500mm and the top runs about 930 x 515mm, so it overhangs on both sides and gives you ledge without taking more floor. The bowl is vitreous china: its glaze melts into the body in the kiln, leaving one sealed surface with no seam for soap scum to settle into.
